Start by cleaning out the pop cans and removing the tab. Cut off the top and bottom of each can and cut slits down the side to create flat rectangular pieces of aluminum. Next, glue the aluminum pieces together to create a larger sheet of metal that will act as the solar panel's backplate. Cut off the excess edges and use sheet metal shears to make the backplate the correct size for the solar cells.
Once you have your backplate, it's time to attach the solar cells. First, solder tabbing wire onto each cell to connect them together. Then, place the cells onto the backplate and use copper wire to secure them in place. Be sure to leave a space at the bottom for the diode.
Finally, attach a diode to the bottom of the panel using tabbing wire. The diode prevents energy from flowing back into the cells during the night, and it also helps regulate energy flow. And voila! Your very own solar panel made from recycled pop cans.
